Walt Whitman is an American poet, journalist and essayist. Whitman is among the most influential poets in the American school, and due to his unique style is often called the father of free verse. Whitman’s use of free verse has influenced generations of poets, including being cited as an example for the poetry of the beat-generation (Ginsberg, Kerouac, Dylan etc.)
