Christian Faur is an American artist whose work includes crayon art, in which he doesn’t draw with the the crayons, but instead uses their 3 dimensional texture to create illusions through colour. He uses photography and crayons posed and set up in arranged patterns to create an image that comes from the 3 dimensional structure. In the artists own words:

Because of the three-dimensional nature of the crayons, the individual surface images appear to change form as one moves about the gallery space. The images completely disappear when viewed from close up, allowing one to read the horizontally sequenced crayon text and to take in the beautifully colored crayon tips — all the while being reminded of that first box of crayons.
This is some of his amazing work, giving us crayon art in a way that we just don’t expect to see it. The artist’s site is here, which also has images of his paintings and other works and they are terrific.
